Mulled Wine

2 bottles of red wine – any red will do but I prefer a Zin

10 cardamom pods

10 whole cloves

10 whole star anise

10 black peppercorns

3 cinnamon sticks

1 navel orange – sliced

1 bottle of blood orange Italian soda


In a large pot, pour the wine then add the anise, cardamom, cloves, peppercorns, cinnamon sticks and orange slices.  You really don’t have to be overly precise in counting out the ingredients – a few extra won’t hurt anything.  Cover and let simmer for at least an hour.  Longer is fine if your guests arrive late or something.

Just before serving, add the Italian soda and strain!  Done!  Now get drunk!
