This is a guest favorite at my house. In fact, I think there are certain people who just assume there will always be candied bacon when they come over. I’ve even had a certain someone bring me bacon just so I could make him this little snack. It’s super easy, has a pretty quick clean up and everyone loves it!
1 pkg bacon – any kind will do
brown sugar – enough to coat each piece of bacon lightly – about 2 cups for a full pkg
pepper – to taste
cayenne – to taste
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with foil to keep the drippings off your pan. You’ll also need a cooling rack that stands high enough so the bacon can hang over the edges without touching the foil.
Add the pepper and cayenne to the brown sugar and stir it up. Take a piece of bacon, toss it around in the brown sugar and drape it over the rack. Do this for each piece until your rack is full, with no bacon pieces touching each other. Bake for 10 minutes and repeat until you’ve got all your bacon cooked. My rack does about 15 pieces each go-round. 10 minutes will make the bacon soft yet fully cooked but if you want crunchy bacon pieces, let it go for 15 to 20 minutes. Just keep an eye on it so it doesn’t burn!
